You may have been thinking about modernizing your cash register, installing an automatic coin dispenser, and securing your cash management for a while now. But between the cost of equipment, payroll, expenses, and unforeseen events, it can be difficult to prioritize.

If you run a restaurant in the Île-de-France region, there is a little-known subsidy that could significantly reduce your investment in cash register equipment. The scheme offered by CRAMIF, the Île-de-France Regional Health Insurance Fund, can finance a significant portion of your equipment costs as part of occupational risk prevention measures.

What is CRAMIF assistance and who is eligible for it?

The role of CRAMIF in financing professional equipment

CRAMIF has a clear objective: to reduce occupational risks within companies.

In the restaurant industry, these risks can take the form of:

  • Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) related to poor posture at the checkout counter,
  • Repetitive movements when handling cash,
  • Stress and mental load at the end of the shift,
  • Risk of assault or theft,
  • Cash register errors causing internal tensions.

An automatic coin dispenser or an ergonomic cash register system directly helps to limit these risks. As Peggy Garnier, a BChef franchisee in Perpignan, points out:"Since my coin dispenser is synchronized with my cash register, all my transactions are accurately accounted for at the end of the day."

What CRAMIF really expects from your file

Don't just describe your equipment. Explain how it changes things for your teams. Ask yourself: how does this equipment reduce a specific risk in my restaurant?

Example to include in your application:

"Our employees handle cash hundreds of times every day. The automatic coin dispenser will eliminate these repetitive movements, reduce stress at the end of the shift, and make the cash register area safer."

A good file is not a technical file. It is a file focused on prevention.

Eligibility criteria: company size, industry, and location

This aid scheme is primarily aimed at:

  • Small and medium-sized enterprises,
  • Companies with fewer than 50 employees (according to the current system,
  • Structures covered by the general regime,
  • Institutions that are up to date with their contributions.

An independent restaurant, a brasserie, a bakery, or a fast food establishment generally fall within the scope.

Geographical scope: companies concerned in the Île-de-France region

Only companies based in the Île-de-France region are eligible. Please note that the aid is subject to limited annual budgets. Once the funds have been exhausted, the scheme may be suspended. In other words, the earlier you apply, the better your chances of benefiting from it.

What equipment is eligible for CRAMIF financing?

Modern cash registers and point-of-sale systems

Ergonomic, centralized checkout systems can be funded provided they have a positive impact on staff working conditions through features such as:

  • A height-adjustable screen to reduce neck strain;
  • An intuitive touchscreen interface, reducing unnecessary handling;
  • Centralized data, avoiding double entries between the dining room and the cash register.

Beyond comfort, this reduces physical and mental fatigue during service, especially during peak times.

Automatic coin dispensers and cash management systems

Automatic coin dispensers are often the most relevant equipment for restaurant owners.

They enable you to:

  • Eliminate cash handling,
  • Reduce cash discrepancies,
  • Secure the cash flow,
  • Reduce stress at the counter.

In a busy establishment, the gain is immediate.

Payment terminals and integrated solutions

Payment terminals integrated into your cash register system may also be eligible for financing, provided that they genuinely contribute to improving working conditions.

In concrete terms, such a system allows:

  • Automatic sending of the amount to be collected (no need to re-enter it),
  • The elimination of typing errors,
  • Faster checkout during busy periods,
  • Better traceability of transactions.

This translates into fewer manipulations, reduced mental load, and smoother workflows. Fewer movements, less fatigue, fewer errors.

Additional equipment: software, installation, and commissioning

Financing does not only apply to the "physical" equipment on your counter. In many cases, assistance can also cover items that are essential to the proper functioning of your point-of-sale solution.

The device may therefore include:

  • Point-of-sale software, if it contributes to improving ergonomics, reducing errors, or centralizing operations.
  • On-site installation, particularly when it requires specific configuration to secure the workstation.
  • Commissioning and deployment, including technical adjustments to limit unnecessary handling.

Why is this important for you, restaurant owner? Because a high-performance system is not limited to a cash register or coin dispenser. It is the whole package: hardware + software + configuration, which really helps streamline service and reduce mental load.

Amounts, ceilings, and financial conditions of the scheme

Coverage rate: up to 70% of the amount excluding tax

Depending on the scheme, coverage can be up to 70% of the pre-tax amount. An investment that you considered too costly can thus become accessible much sooner than expected. For an independent establishment, this can make the difference between postponing the project or launching it this year.

Ceilings per institution and per project

Ceilings apply at different levels. They can be defined:

  • By institution,
  • Per company,
  • By type of assistance.

Some subsidies also set a maximum subsidy amount. In other words, even if your investment is substantial, only a portion of it may be taken into account when calculating the subsidy. It is therefore essential to factor these limits into your projected budget from the outset to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Can be combined with other aid and subsidies

Combination may be possible with:

  • Regional aid,
  • Sector-specific measures,
  • Modernization assistance.

However, the rules vary. In some cases, the total amount is capped so as not to exceed a certain percentage of the total project cost. Consulting with your accountant or supplier can help you secure a financing plan that is consistent and compliant with the rules in force.

Payment schedule and repayment terms

The payment of aid follows a specific procedure. To trigger the payment, you must first:

  1. Obtain approval for your application,
  2. Make the planned investment,
  3. Send all supporting documents (invoices, certificates, etc.)

Unlike a loan or credit, grant money is direct financial assistance, and you are not required to repay it if you comply with all the rules.

You must keep the equipment for a minimum period of time specified by the program. Premature resale could jeopardize the subsidy.

How to put together your application and obtain CRAMIF assistance?

Documents to be provided: estimates, supporting documents, mandatory forms

Before submitting your application, make sure you have gathered all the necessary documents. In practice, these often include:

  • Detailed quotes,
  • Administrative documents,
  • Certificate of good standing,
  • Official form for the program,
  • Up-to-date DUERP (when required).

Timing: should you buy before or after the application?

Essential rule: do not incur the expense before official approval. Many applications are rejected due to advance investment. In practical terms, this means that you must wait for written approval before signing a purchase order or paying a deposit.

Even a simple contractual commitment may be enough to make your project ineligible, hence the importance of carefully coordinating your schedule with your supplier.

Processing and payment times for the grant

Processing times can vary from several weeks to several months. During periods of high demand, for example, they may be longer, particularly when budget allocations are coming to an end for the fiscal year.

If your project involves renovation, upgrading, or seasonal peak activity, remember to factor this administrative time into your overall schedule to avoid any delays.

Points to watch out for and mistakes to avoid in your application

To maximize your chances, avoid common mistakes that often lead to rejection:

  • Incomplete quote,
  • File submitted after the deadline,
  • Workforce not compliant with the conditions of the scheme,
  • Expenses incurred prior to formal agreement.

By taking the time to check each point and clearly detailing the prevention aspect, you will significantly increase your chances of success.

Support: where can you find help with putting together your application?

You don't necessarily have to put together your application on your own. Several people can guide you and save you time. These include:

  • Your accountant, who is familiar with your administrative and financial obligations,
  • Your professional organization, which can advise you on the assistance available in your sector,
  • Your point-of-sale solution provider, who is often familiar with prevention projects and the supporting documents that need to be provided.

Some service providers specializing in catering are fully versed in prevention criteria and can help you put together a solid, comprehensive file.

Beyond financial assistance, ask yourself this question: is your payment system still suited to your business volume, your teams, and your security challenges? If the answer leaves you with doubts, the CRAMIF subsidy becomes more than just financing: it offers you a real opportunity to modernize your establishment, improve the safety of your staff, and secure your cash flow.
